Taxis in Tallinn

A few useful tips for taking a taxi in Tallinn:

Passengers can choose a taxi of their choice at the taxi stand, but it is cheaper to call a taxi by phone.
There are no limits to the prices chargeable, which is why the taxis use different price lists.
The cost of the taxi-ride for the passenger is shown on the taximeter display – taxi drivers are not allowed to charge passengers a fare higher than the taximeter reading!

Taxi fares can be paid in cash or by debit/credit card.
Before you get into the taxi, read the price list for the taxi’s services – this you can find on the window of the rear passenger door.

In order to avoid misunderstandings, ask for an estimated cost of the ride to your destination before the ride begins.
Taxi drivers are obligated to give the user of the taxi service a receipt printed with the taximeter printer (do not forget to ask the taxi driver for a taximeter printer receipt at the end of your taxi ride).

If the taximeter and printer are broken, the passenger has the right to refuse to pay the fare.

Parking in Tallinn

Visitors must pay for parking their cars in the Old Town, Downtown and City Centre zones of Tallinn. After parking your car, you must place the ticket proving the payment of the parking fee (pay and display) on the dashboard under the windscreen where it can be easily seen. The first fifteen minutes of parking are free in Tallinn, provided that you use a parking clock or write the time when you begin parking on a piece of paper and place the clock/paper in a place where it can be easily seen.

For a map of the parking zones, click here.

If you want to use banknotes for purchasing a ticket from the pay and display machine, you must remember to enter the exact sum, because the machine does not return notes; all of the banknotes entered will be used for the calculation of the parking duration. The machines do return coins.

Guests of the Hotel Palace travelling with their own car should contact the reception of the hotel; the reception staff will find you suitable parking near the hotel.
